**About the Stream, Group or Branch**:
The Disability Strategy Group’s purpose is to improve the independence of, and participation by, people with disability by providing targeted support and services - this includes improved support for carers. The Group oversees a range of programs and policy initiatives including the development of the New National Disability Strategy 2021 - 2031, Disability Royal Commission, Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) Program and the National Disability Data Asset (NDDA) project.

The Disability Support Branch promotes collaboration and partnership with local communities and mainstream and universal services to create greater inclusivity and accessibility for people with disability and is responsible for the administration and management of the ILC program, the NDDA project, the National Disability Gateway, and Early Childhood Intervention and Autism.

**Position Description**:
Autism Policy Team:
The Australian Government has committed to the development of a National Autism Strategy (the strategy). The Autism Policy Team is looking for enthusiastic, professional and highly motivated people to undertake APS6 Policy Officer roles to support a range of activities to inform development of the strategy.

Tasks the Policy Officers will be required to undertake are likely to include:

- engaging with research and data from a range of sources
- drafting high quality documents and other materials for a range of audiences, including ministerial and departmental briefings and consultation papers
- providing Secretariat support to develop and establish governance arrangements to oversee development of the strategy
- developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including planning and supporting public engagement and consultation activities to inform development of the strategy
- developing, implementing and managing associated grants and procurement processes
- supporting broader autism policy work of the team.

National Disability Data Asset (NDDA) Policy Team:
The NDDA project proposes to establish a collection of linked de-identified data covering multiple service systems and incorporating Commonwealth and State/Territory data. The aim is to obtain a better understanding of how people with disability are supported through services, payments and programs, and what outcomes are experienced.

The project is governed by a series of inter-departmental committees, cross jurisdictional and Ministerial meetings. In the main, the Policy Officer will provide secretariat services to various committees as well as assisting the crafting of policy papers, executive communication and Ministerial submissions and briefs.

Tasks the Policy Officers will be required to undertake are likely to include:]
- drafting high quality documents and other materials for a range of audiences, including ministerial and departmental briefings and consultation papers
- providing Secretariat support governing the NDDA project
- developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- supporting broader policy work to drive the NDDA project.

ILC Operations Policy Team:
The ILC Operations Team is responsible for the administration and management of the ILC program. The ILC program is a key element of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), providing capacity building supports for people with disability, and their families and carers including people with disability who do not receive NDIS individually funded packages.

Tasks the officers will be required to undertake are likely to include:

- drafting policy advice and preparing high quality documents for a range of audiences including ministers, executives and key stakeholders
- research, analysis and interpret information/data from various sources to inform policy considerations
- developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- working closely with other policy areas within the department and with other agencies, including developing and implementing strategies to improve these connections
- developing and implementing strategic communications activities including branch information resources.
