**About the Division**
The Digital Solutions Division (DSD) designs, builds, maintains, and supports large-scale (enterprise) specialised software systems used by departmental staff and businesses to provide quality services to job seekers and employers; respond to national future skills needs through access to VET graduates with the right skills; reduce barriers to undertaking quality VET; administer and implement programs and services related to Workplace Support.
**The Role**
Reporting to a Director or Delivery Manager, the Service Designer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary agile team delivering IT systems for the department. You will work with business system owners and users to identify and document the problems that need to be resolved including broad understanding of the relative value of addressing different parts of the problem. You may work alongside business representative, system users, process participants, Product Managers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, Technical Architects and Solution Designers, Communications and Change Management staff.
You will report on your work. You will work to identify and manage issues that block your progress. You will work independently under broad direction.
The successful applicant will receive the necessary training, mentoring, and guidance to perform the key responsibilities of the role and to advance their careers in the Australian Public Service (APS).
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Responsibilities of the APS6 may include:
- Lead a range of user research activities.
- Working with others to create artefacts and documents describing the current state of a service, the impacted users and key problems and outcomes. This will include Service Blueprints, personas and other industry standard artefacts.
- Work with a diverse range of policy, business and IT stakeholders to co-design and document a future state that balances desirability, feasibility and viability.
- Using contemporary user-centred design approaches to elicit and replay information in formats consumable by business and system users.
- Working with Business and System Analysts and Solution architects to ensure all aspects of a solution are aligned toward delivering the same outcomes and experience.
- Working with UX/UI and Accessibility staff to ensure solutions are user centric and meet policy requirements.
- Representing the voice of the user in delivery and project management teams.
**Qualifications and Education**
Essential
- Knowledge of agile delivery
- Knowledge of user centred design practices and methods
- Knowledge of user experience practices and methods
- Knowledge of service design practices and methods
Desirable
- Industry education / certifications
