About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cryogenic Systems Manager to join our team at the Faculty of Science. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing the helium liquefier facility and providing technical direction to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the equipment.

Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary of $143,000 - $151,000 per annum, plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.

Job Description

As a Cryogenic Systems Manager, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the operational activity of the helium liquefier facility to achieve financial and operational objectives;
  • Developing and implementing guidelines, processes, and procedures to align with research activities and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements;
  • Maintaining high-level communication and consultation with stakeholders, including building a network of industry contacts;
  • Liaising with procurement and vendors to ensure continuity of supply and maintenance of consumables and equipment;
  • Providing technical direction and support to staff and students, and driving process improvement initiatives;
  • Representing the Liquefier Facility at UNSW work areas, advisory groups, meetings, and other activities.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and substantial experience in management, cryogenics, gas, or vacuum systems;
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail;
  • Proven technical capabilities, analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to exercise initiative and flexibility;
  • Demonstrated success working effectively with diverse stakeholders, senior management, and teams;
  • Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures, as well as Microsoft 365 and other products in the Microsoft suite;
  • An understanding of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant training.
