About the Role

C.H. Robinson is seeking an experienced and strategic General Manager to lead our freight forwarding operations in VIC & SA. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for driving the branch's sales and operations to achieve our strategic business and financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Strategic Business Planning and Management
  • Develop and implement branch vision and direction.
  • Set and lead short-term business objectives (1 year or less).
  • Collaborate with the team to create and articulate a strategic market plan annually.
  • Drive business decision making by utilizing analytics and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Design and implement organizational structure to drive business objectives.
  • Build and manage internal relationships to ensure collaboration and efficiency.
  • Responsible for workforce planning, forecasting resource needs, and talent acquisition.
Financial Management
  • Accountable for financial performance at a country level or mid-size branch.
  • Set volume and margin targets for products, aligning with sales and commercial goals.
  • Review and monitor periodic reports and analytics to identify performance metrics and adjust business resources accordingly.
  • Oversee expense management, invoicing, and process improvements.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses and define service standards with internal and external providers.
  • Guide and direct the team on customer-related decisions.
Business Growth and Development
  • Possess a broad understanding of C.H. Robinson's products, services, and technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen and maintain existing relationships with strategic customers.
  • Drive best practices in sales and account management by leveraging C.H. Robinson's tools and strategies.
Talent Management
  • Manage the performance and development of direct and indirect reports.
  • Assess, calibrate, and manage talent to align roles and resources appropriately.
  • Oversee reward and recognition strategies, including compensation administration and employee recognition.
  • Review employee engagement measures and implement action plans to improve culture and collaboration.
General Management
  • Represent C.H. Robinson as a legal representative to agencies, organizations, and private and government organizations.
  • Partner with legal and local counsel to manage contracts and negotiations with customers and carriers.
  • Oversee workplace conduct, risk management, and compliance practices.
  • Create and implement business continuity plans, including risk assessment and office logistics management.
  • Ensure self and team act with the highest ethical standards.
  • Lead and support change management, including communication, implementation, and reinforcement.
  • Actively participate in industry, community, and campus activities to enhance the C.H. Robinson brand.
Requirements
  1. Extensive experience in leading business strategy, operations, and change management within a large organization.
  2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  3. Minimum 8 years of people management experience.
  4. Ability to travel up to 50% (domestically).
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Strong knowledge of C.H. Robinson's carrier, commercial-facing, and/or customer-facing business.
  2. Experience managing financials for a business segment with the ability to understand and communicate financial metrics.
  3. Demonstrated success generating revenue or business growth in a client-facing role.
  4. Experience managing cross-functional projects.
  5. Demonstrated negotiation, collaboration, and influencing skills.
  6. Values a diverse and inclusive work environment.
