The role of the Community Engagement Facilitator (CEF) is pivotal in promoting community involvement and strengthening capacity within both the community and the wider service framework. Your primary responsibility will be to engage with various stakeholders, both within and outside the organization, to identify, assess, and report on challenges related to access and inclusion. You will advocate for individuals with disabilities, ensuring their voices are heard and empowering them to become key decision-makers in overcoming these challenges. Additionally, you will oversee and facilitate all components of Mission Australia's Community Capacity Building and Engagement & Awareness initiatives, collaborating closely with Local Area Coordinators to fulfill objectives related to community inclusion and accessibility. Your role will involve leveraging existing organizational strengths to devise and implement effective solutions that enhance our local communities.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Identify essential community groups, service providers, and sectors that should be engaged for community involvement and capacity enhancement activities.
  • Utilize project management skills to oversee and coordinate initiatives aligned with the Community Capacity Building and Community Engagement & Awareness strategies.
  • Foster capacity and connections within the community to create opportunities for children and individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to participate more fully in local activities.
  • Map Mission Australia's contributions to improving access and inclusion throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Accurately document measurements of community wellbeing and the long-term impact of the capacity building initiatives.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the challenges faced by CALD and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities.

Requirements for Success

To excel in this role, you should possess a robust background in Community Development, Disability Services, or Community Services. Other essential qualifications include:

  • A qualification in Allied Health, Social Work, Disability, Community Services, or Community Development or a related field.
  • Strong familiarity with the Victor Harbor, Fleurieu & Kangaroo Island regions.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the community services sector, particularly in areas experiencing significant and persistent disadvantage.
  • Experience in applying Community Development methodologies and skills in data analysis and research are advantageous.
  • Proven ability to produce high-quality reports and identify inaccuracies in data.
  • Capability to integrate into teams effectively while also being able to work independently.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LGBTIQA+, and CALD communities.
  • A valid full driver’s license with no restrictions.

Prior to commencing employment, candidates will be required to undergo a national police history check, verification of qualifications, and reference checks, as well as obtain clearance to work with children and vulnerable individuals.
