About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Aboriginal Youth Mentor to join our team at Hope Community Services. As a key member of our headspace Esperance team, you will play a vital role in engaging with young people from diverse backgrounds, with a particular focus on Aboriginal young men.

Key Responsibilities
  • Community Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to raise awareness and engagement of headspace Esperance among young people, their families, and the broader community.
  • Program Development: Collaborate with the Clinical Team to design and deliver culturally sensitive and contextually appropriate programs, workshops, and events that promote mental health literacy and support young people's well-being.
  • Partnership Building: Foster strong relationships with local organizations, schools, and community groups to ensure seamless referrals and support for young people.
  • Event Coordination: Organize and participate in various events, such as headspace training activities, community events, and promotional days/weeks, to promote mental health awareness and support.
Requirements
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience working with young people, particularly those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, and a strong understanding of the challenges they face.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of mental health issues affecting young people, including substance use, and a commitment to promoting culturally sensitive and evidence-based practices.
  • Education: Relevant qualifications in a field such as youth work, social work, or a related field.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience in the Not-for-Profit Sector: Previous experience working in the not-for-profit sector, particularly in youth-focused organizations.
  • Community Development: Experience in community development, program coordination, and event management.
