Youth Ministry Officer

Position Overview

The Youth Ministry Officer plays a vital role in enhancing the spiritual life within the Catholic educational environment by fostering and nurturing student-led ministry initiatives. This position is essential in the promotion of youth faith development and catechetical education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with educators to implement the Catholic Schools Youth Ministry Australia (CSYMA) Curriculum and general catechesis.
  • Lead and facilitate school-based retreats, including the Catch the Wave Retreat and Journey with Jesus programs.
  • Assist in organizing faith-based events within the school, such as reflection days, liturgies, and sacramental programs.
  • Coordinate the activities of the school’s Youth Ministry Team, including regular meetings and planning sessions.
  • Oversee student outreach initiatives and support the Religious Education Coordinator in planning events that enrich the faith community.
  • Engage students in various formation opportunities, including CSYMA programs like the Youth Ministry Skills Series and the Youth Academy.
  • Participate in the CSYMA Youth Ministry Training Program and related initiatives.
  • Support student formation activities that extend beyond the school environment when feasible.
  • Engage in regular formation sessions with Catholic Education.
  • Attend necessary meetings throughout the academic year, including mentor and leadership gatherings.

Qualifications

  • Completion of secondary education.
  • Progress towards a bachelor's degree.
  • Registration for Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) and Working with Children's Check (WWCC).

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Catholic Church's mission in education.
  • Familiarity with youth ministry formation programs, particularly the CSYMA framework.
  • Personal commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Ability to plan and organize effectively under time constraints.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Adherence to relevant legislation regarding child protection and educational guidelines.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.

Other Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents.
  • Successful candidates will undergo employment screening for child-related roles as per policy.
