About Our Team

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and operating all of AWS global infrastructure.

Our team owns the solutions that allow racks to be aggregated and data centers to be interconnected.

We balance efficiency, performance, and reliability to enable customers access to their applications and data.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with vendors/manufacturers to evaluate new hardware and software features.
  • Automate optical test plans and qualify optical modules.
  • Collaborate with vendors/manufactures in defining and developing test plans for Optical Modules.
  • Work with network operations team in identifying operation issues and improving quality and RMA process.

Day-to-Day Operations:

Engineers in our InterDC Optical services team have a wide range of responsibilities.

In terms of product development and delivery, it covers all activities related to hardware and software development, cross-platforms and software integration, and transition to production for both inhouse commodity and OEM optical platforms.

From the lifecycle support perspective, includes day to day operations on-call, sustaining engineering, operational load automation and reduction, product and network security, network data integrity and authoritativeness, availability assurance (SRLG monitoring) and improvement (OLP, RFTS) and fiber infrastructure and vendor performance management.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

Optical Network Development Engineer will be responsible for building, deploying and scaling the Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units, across multiple global data centers.

What You'll Own:

You will be responsible for high-quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.

This role is focused on driving the stability and sustainability of next-generation IP networks.

Requirements:

5+ years of experience in network engineering, preferably in an optical networking environment.

Familiarity with optical test and measurement tools.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines.

Strong understanding of software development methodologies and principles.
