Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor to lead our Commercial QS Team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving best value from suppliers/subcontractors and internal resources to maximise project profitability and company process improvements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a thorough understanding of project specifications, pricing structures, programmes, and contractual conditions.
  • Reviewing and assisting with the negotiation and agreement of client/main contractor contract documentation.
  • Assisting other departments with pre-start planning and programming.
  • Managing supplier/subcontractor selection, analysing competitive offers, and ensuring chosen suppliers/subcontractors have the appropriate skill set and capability to deliver the works.
  • Placing all appropriate supplier/subcontractor orders, ensuring that such order documentation provides access to all required information for the supplier/subcontractor to undertake their work without jeopardising any terms, conditions or obligations agreed by the organisation.
  • Being responsible for all supplier/sub-contract commercial management, including variation accounts and processing of requests for payment.
  • Attending external and internal project-related meetings, recording all actions, agreements and any unresolved matters.
  • Recording and tracking progress by internal departments and external suppliers/subcontractors in relation to agreed project programmes.
  • Managing day-to-day cost control, monitoring and reporting systems, recommending and implementing improvements.
  • Controlling change management, identifying, communicating, costing and assisting with resolution of changes to the agreed scope of works.
  • Analysing internal reporting systems, design, procurement and construction, including site-produced paperwork, providing feedback on quality and content.
  • Providing advice on commercial and contractual matters, reviewing and drafting correspondence.
  • Measuring, valuing, submitting and negotiating contract variations with the client and supply chain as necessary.
  • Communicating and liaising with stakeholders in relation to all project commercial matters, ensuring receipt of payments in accordance with the agreed contract.
  • Completing monthly cost/valuation reports and cash flow for each designated project.
People Management

The successful candidate will become a valued member of the project team.

They will communicate regularly with project staff, ensuring commercial controls are in place, understood and adhered to at all times.

When and where appropriate, they will manage direct reports, ensuring they understand what is required of them, they perform to the standards required, meeting set targets, and appropriate training is provided when required.
