Position Overview

The Senior Project Engineer will play a pivotal role in managing significant infrastructure initiatives within a leading Government Institution in Queensland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert engineering guidance for the execution of major capital projects as assigned by the Executive Manager.
  • Oversee project delivery efforts for capital works within the Council's Major Projects portfolio.
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of tender submissions for capital works and compile detailed reports for senior management and Council review.
  • Support the Executive Manager in leading and supervising designated teams and work programs.
  • Optimize team workload to enhance efficiency and identify Value for Money opportunities.
  • Deliver professional advice to Council Officers, Stakeholders, and Councillors regarding ongoing and proposed projects.
  • Ensure effective project management and contract oversight for elements of major capital works projects executed by both internal and external teams.
  • Operate with minimal supervision from the Executive Manager to guide project teams and oversee staff and contractors.
  • Regularly report on project financials and timelines, including progress claims, variations, and expenditure trends.
  • Facilitate consultations and negotiations with internal and external entities, including public utility authorities.
  • Apply a solid understanding of relevant Australian Standards, Statutory Approval Legislation, and Contract Law.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Senior Project Engineer position will possess the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering or a related engineering qualification.
  • Extensive experience in civil engineering, project, and contract management within a medium to large multi-disciplinary organization.
  • Proven track record in managing water or water-related projects.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary project teams to meet project and corporate goals.
  • Familiarity with relevant Standards and Legislation.
  • Understanding of project management methodologies, including PMBOK, PRINCE2, and other industry standards.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Membership in The Institution of Engineers Australia or a comparable industry organization.
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer registration with the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland.
