The Senior Project Engineer - Major Projects will be responsible for the following key duties:
- Deliver expert engineering insights on the execution of significant capital initiatives, as directed by senior management.
- Oversee project teams to ensure successful delivery of capital works within the Major Projects portfolio.
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of tender submissions for capital projects and generate detailed reports for management review.
- Support the Executive Manager in leading and managing designated teams and their respective work plans.
- Optimize team workload to enhance efficiency and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Provide specialized professional guidance to Council Officers, stakeholders, and decision-makers regarding ongoing and upcoming projects.
- Ensure effective project management and contract oversight for major capital works undertaken by both internal and external teams.
- Operate with minimal supervision from the Executive Manager to guide project teams and oversee staff and contractors.
- Regularly report on project financials and timelines, including updates on progress claims, variations, and spending patterns.
- Facilitate consultations and negotiations with various authorities, including public utility organizations.
- Apply a robust understanding of relevant Australian Standards, statutory approval processes, and contract law.
The ideal candidate for the Senior Project Engineer - Major Projects will possess the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Significant experience in civil engineering, project management, and contract administration within a medium to large organization.
- Proven track record in managing water-related projects or similar initiatives.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams to meet both project and organizational goals.
- Familiarity with relevant standards and legislative requirements.
- Understanding of project management methodologies, including PMBOK and PRINCE2.
- Membership in The Institution of Engineers Australia or a comparable professional body.
- Eligibility for professional registration as an engineer with the relevant regulatory board.
