Position Overview

The Senior Project Engineer will play a pivotal role in overseeing significant infrastructure initiatives, particularly in the realm of water treatment. This position is essential for ensuring the successful execution of complex projects that contribute to the sustainability and resilience of the water network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert engineering insights to facilitate the successful delivery of major capital initiatives.
  • Lead project teams in executing capital works across the organization’s Major Projects portfolio.
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of tender submissions and generate detailed reports for senior management review.
  • Support the Executive Manager in guiding and supervising project teams and work schedules.
  • Optimize team workload to enhance efficiency and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Deliver professional advice to various stakeholders, including Council Officers and Councillors, regarding ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Oversee the management and execution of major capital works projects, ensuring alignment with internal and external resources.
  • Work with minimal supervision to direct project teams and manage staff and contractors effectively.
  • Regularly report on project financials and timelines, including updates on claims, variations, and spending patterns.
  • Facilitate discussions and negotiations with both internal and external entities, including utility authorities.
  • Apply a solid understanding of relevant Australian Standards, statutory regulations, and contract law.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Senior Project Engineer position will possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in civil engineering, project management, and contract oversight within a medium to large multi-disciplinary organization.
  • A proven track record in managing water-related projects.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead multi-disciplinary teams to meet project and organizational goals.
  • A strong grasp of relevant standards and legislation.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies such as PMBOK and PRINCE2.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership in The Institution of Engineers Australia or a similar professional body.
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer registration with the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland.
