Position Overview

The Senior Project Engineer - Major Projects will be responsible for:

  1. Providing expert engineering guidance on the execution of significant capital initiatives, as instructed by senior management.
  2. Overseeing project delivery teams for capital works within the organization’s Major Projects framework.
  3. Conducting comprehensive evaluations of tender proposals for capital projects and compiling detailed reports for senior leadership review.
  4. Supporting the Executive Manager of Major Projects in leading and managing assigned teams and project schedules.
  5. Optimizing team workload to enhance efficiency and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  6. Offering professional insights to other Council personnel, stakeholders, and decision-makers regarding ongoing and upcoming projects.
  7. Ensuring effective delivery, project oversight, and contract administration for components of major capital initiatives executed by both internal teams and external partners.
  8. Working with minimal oversight from the Executive Manager of Major Projects to guide and manage project teams and supervise personnel and contractors.
  9. Delivering regular updates on project financials and timelines, including information on progress claims, variations, and spending patterns.
  10. Facilitating discussions and negotiations with both internal and external entities, including utility authorities.
  11. Applying a robust understanding of relevant Australian Standards, regulatory requirements, and contract law.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Senior Project Engineer - Major Projects role will possess:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  2. Extensive experience in civil engineering, project management, and contract administration within a medium to large-scale, multi-disciplinary organization.
  3. A proven track record in managing water-related projects or similar initiatives.
  4. Demonstrated capability to lead diverse project teams to meet organizational and project goals.
  5. A solid understanding of applicable standards and regulations.
  6. Familiarity with project management methodologies, including PMBOK, PRINCE2, and other recognized frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Membership in The Institution of Engineers Australia or a comparable professional organization.
  2. Eligibility for Professional Engineer registration with the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland.
