Position Overview

The Senior Project Engineer - Major Projects will be responsible for the following key duties:

  1. Providing expert engineering guidance on the execution of significant capital initiatives, as directed by senior management.
  2. Leading teams in the delivery of capital works within the Major Projects portfolio.
  3. Conducting comprehensive evaluations of tender proposals for capital projects and generating detailed reports for senior leadership review.
  4. Assisting in the leadership and oversight of designated teams and work programs.
  5. Managing team workloads to enhance efficiency and identify value-for-money opportunities.
  6. Offering professional advice to Council Officers, stakeholders, and decision-makers regarding ongoing and prospective projects.
  7. Overseeing the overall execution, project management, and contract administration of major capital works projects involving both internal and external resources.
  8. Operating with minimal supervision from senior management to guide project teams and supervise staff and contractors.
  9. Providing regular updates on project financials and timelines, including details on progress claims, variations, and spending trends.
  10. Facilitating consultations and negotiations with internal and external entities, including utility authorities.
  11. Applying a solid understanding of relevant Australian Standards, statutory approval legislation, and contract law.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Senior Project Engineer - Major Projects will possess the following qualifications:

  1. A Bachelor of Engineering or a related engineering qualification.
  2. Extensive experience in civil engineering, project management, and contract administration within a medium to large multi-disciplinary organization.
  3. Proven experience in water-related projects or similar industries.
  4. Demonstrated capability to lead multi-disciplinary project teams to meet project and organizational goals.
  5. Familiarity with relevant standards and legislation.
  6. Understanding of project management methodologies, including PMBOK, PRINCE2, and other industry frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Membership in The Institution of Engineers Australia or a comparable professional body.
  2. Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with the relevant regulatory board.
