Role Overview

The Senior Project Engineer - Major Projects will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert engineering insights for the execution of major capital projects, as directed by the Executive Manager.
  • Leading teams in the delivery of capital works across the Council's Major Projects portfolio.
  • Conducting comprehensive evaluations of tender submissions for capital works and preparing detailed reports for senior management and Council review.
  • Assisting the Executive Manager Major Projects in guiding and supervising assigned teams and work programs.
  • Managing team workloads to enhance efficiency and identify Value for Money opportunities.
  • Offering professional guidance to other Council Officers, Stakeholders, and Councillors regarding current and prospective projects.
  • Overseeing the overall delivery, project management, and contract management of major capital works projects executed by both internal and external resources.
  • Working with limited supervision from the Executive Manager Major Projects to lead and direct project teams while supervising staff and contractors.
  • Providing regular updates on project expenditures and schedules, including details on progress claims, variations, and expenditure trends.
  • Leading consultations and negotiations with internal and external authorities, including public utility entities.
  • Applying a solid technical understanding of relevant Australian Standards, Statutory Approval Legislation, and Contract Law.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Senior Project Engineer - Major Projects will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent Engineering qualification.
  • Extensive experience in civil engineering, project, and contract management within a medium to large multi-disciplinary organization.
  • Proven industry experience in water or water-related projects.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage multi-disciplinary project teams to meet project and corporate goals.
  • A solid understanding of relevant Standards and Legislation.
  • Familiarity with project management frameworks, such as PMBOK, PRINCE2, and other industry standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership in The Institution of Engineers Australia or a comparable industry body.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland.
