About the Opportunity

Launch Housing is a leading provider of homelessness services, dedicated to ending homelessness in Melbourne. As a volunteer, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission to provide housing, keep people housed, and be an influential voice on ending homelessness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcome visitors to the site and facilitate the visitor in/out processes
  • Ensure reception and other common areas are welcoming, clean, and tidy
  • Update information on notice boards as necessary
  • Answer phone calls, including transferring to staff, taking messages, and providing information about Launch Housing as needed
  • Assist Duty staff with maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of daily resident activities
  • Monitor the office email account
  • Assist with administration tasks, including incoming and outgoing mail, preparation of letters, photocopying, filing, scanning, and archiving
  • Assist residents with house needs, including computer use, kitchens, and storage
  • Assist Duty staff with monitoring storage of residents' belongings and follow up as needed
Requirements
  • A warm and courteous manner to greet visitors in person and over the phone
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Reliability and punctuality, including ability to commit to minimum 6 months volunteering
  • Competent computer and keyboard skills with minimal training required, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and navigating internet sites
  • Ability to work independently, as well as effectively as part of a team
  • An understanding or willingness to understand homelessness and in particular, the needs and issues affecting clients who are at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness
  • Ability to empathise, and an understanding of, and respect for, privacy, confidentiality, and appropriate boundaries
  • Genuine interest in making a difference and helping others
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and/or marginalised communities
