Employment Law Specialist

About The Role:

We are seeking a skilled Employment Law Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will provide strategic advice on employment and industrial relations disputes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare written advices on employment law-related issues and industrial relations matters
  • Provide strategic advice on employment and industrial relations disputes
  • Represent the firm at conferences before relevant courts or tribunals
  • Research case law and provide legal analysis
  • Draft court documents and settlement agreements
  • Engage barristers and investigators
  • Instruct counsel and senior lawyers during court hearings, mediations, and conferences
  • Correspond with opposing solicitors and self-represented applicants
  • Liaise with witnesses and draft statements and affidavits
  • Delegate work and provide instructions to lawyers, paralegals, and administrative support
  • Mentor and coach lawyers to support their development
  • Support graduates and seasonal clerks throughout their rotations
  • Raise client relationships and business, including managing certain client relationships
  • Participate in individual and group-wide business development activities
About You:
  • Tertiary qualification in Law and a current Practicing Certificate for the relevant jurisdiction
  • 5-8 years PAE working principally in Employment Law, preferably gained in a law practice
  • Demonstrated ability in critical thinking, problem-solving, and lateral reasoning
  • Skilled at building trusted relationships with stakeholders and earning their confidence
  • Expertise in drafting clear, concise legal documents
  • Efficient in managing files and billing, with strong organisational skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding negotiation and influencing abilities
  • Experience facilitating presentations and meetings for diverse group sizes
  • Proactive mindset, willing to challenge the status quo and propose practical solutions
  • Motivated to learn and grow new skills
  • Highly organised, with proven ability to plan and prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Commitment to identifying risks and adhering to established risk management protocols
  • Sound judgement in problem resolution and discernment on when to escalate issues
