Job Summary

As a Senior Commercial Counsel, you will provide expert legal guidance to business units supporting strategy and ensuring compliance. You will draft and negotiate complex agreements, manage risks, and act as a trusted advisor.

This role requires strong commercial acumen, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while mentoring team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide timely, business-focused legal advice on commercial matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various agreements, including supply, distribution, consulting, and licensing contracts.
  • Manage contract lifecycles from drafting through execution and ongoing management.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver commercially sound and legally compliant agreements.
  • Lead the development and implementation of risk management strategies and frameworks.
  • Provide legal leadership in managing employee and employment law-related matters.
  • Mentor and support the development of team members to enhance legal practice skills and business outcomes.
Requirements
  • Legal qualification with at least 8+ years post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Current Australian practising certificate.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical law, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Proven expertise in developing and implementing risk management frameworks, policies, and strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience providing commercial legal advice and managing legal risks in complex environments.
  • Skilled in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a range of commercial agreements (supply, distribution, consulting, licensing).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess and mitigate risks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to explain complex legal concepts clearly to varied stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound commercial judgements in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills to influence, motivate, and develop team members.
  • Significant experience in a legal or regulatory role within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships at all organisational levels.
  • High level of commercial acumen and alignment of legal advice with business strategy.
