About the Role

Monash University is seeking volunteer members for its Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) to ensure the ethical, humane, and responsible care and use of animals in research and teaching activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review research projects and teaching activities involving animals to ensure compliance with the Australian Code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.
  • Provide expert advice on animal welfare and ethics to the AEC.
  • Participate in AEC meetings and discussions to ensure robust review of projects and effective operation of the Committee.
  • Attend meetings in-person and contribute to the development of knowledge related to the legislative framework governing animal use in research and teaching.
Requirements
  • Category A (Veterinarian): A person with qualifications in veterinary science recognized for registration as a veterinary surgeon in Australia, with experience relevant to the research and teaching activities of Monash University.
  • Category C (Animal Welfare): A person with a demonstrable commitment to and established experience in furthering the welfare of animals, with no current involvement in the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.
