Job Title: Wildlife Animal Welfare Representative

About the Role:

Monash University's School of Biological Sciences is seeking a volunteer wildlife animal welfare representative to join their Animal Ethics Committee. The committee is responsible for reviewing wildlife and conservation projects that involve animals, ensuring the use of animals is justified and has scientific merit, and prioritizing animal welfare.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review project applications and provide input on the scientific, ethical, and welfare aspects of research and teaching activities involving animals.
  • Participate in AEC discussions to ensure robust review of projects and related activities, and effective operation of the Committee.
  • Attend meetings in-person and contribute to the review process.

Requirements:

  • Established experience in furthering the welfare of animals, preferably in relation to wildlife and native species.
  • Good knowledge of the general context of animal welfare and a general understanding of the ways in which society considers it acceptable to treat animals.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to contribute to AEC meetings and related processes, and undertake initial and ongoing training and education.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, as well as computer skills.
