Senior Casualty Underwriter

We are seeking an experienced Casualty Underwriter to join our team at Markel Corporation. As a key member of our Wholesale division, you will play a critical role in the development and execution of our strategy in Australia.
Key Responsibilities- Portfolio Development: Assist in the growth and development of Markel's Casualty portfolio in Australia, with a focus on profitable expansion and cross-selling opportunities.
- Strategy Execution: Support the development and implementation of Markel's wider strategy in Australia, working closely with our teams in London and Asia.
- Risk Management: Manage a portfolio of risks, including underwriting new risks, monitoring portfolio rate adequacy, and using analytical skills to enhance underwriting capabilities.
- Relationship Building: Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, distribution partners, and clients, establishing Markel as a market leader in Casualty underwriting in Australia.
- Business Planning: Contribute to the business planning process for the Casualty portfolio in Australia, as well as support the planning process for wider product lines of Markel in New South Wales.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with our teams in London and Asia, as well as other departments within Markel, to drive business growth and development.
- Innovation and Thought Leadership: Develop fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to support the achievement of goals and the development of Markel in Australia.
- 10 or more years of Casualty Underwriting experience.
- A track record of successfully building a Casualty portfolio, including experience of cross-selling with other lines of business/products.
- Confidence to work remotely from their manager, displaying independent productivity, initiative, and leadership qualities.
- Clear communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
