Lead the independent statutory office responsible for amplifying victims' voices and driving systemic change to improve outcomes for crime victims.
About the Office of the Victims CommissionerThe Office is an independent statutory body established by government to champion victims' rights and needs.
With a vision to ensure victims are respected, seen and heard in a justice system anticipating their needs, the Office provides advocacy and advice to improve outcomes across the justice landscape.
Through engagement with victims, their families, the community, and government and non-government organisations, the Office drives systemic change and influences policy and reform.
As Victims Commissioner, you will lead the identification and investigation of systemic issues affecting crime victims and provide authoritative advice to government on opportunities for reform.
You will be responsible for promoting and upholding victims' rights, handling complaints where rights may have been contravened, and providing advice, training and information to entities.
A critical part of the role is ensuring victims' lived experiences are heard and acted upon, and that recommendations made by the Commissioner are published, monitored and implemented effectively.
You will represent victims' interests at state and national levels, engage with media and stakeholders, and provide strategic reports to the Minister on issues impacting victims and survivors of crime.
You will also chair the Sexual Violence Review Board, driving systemic improvements in the reporting, investigation and prosecution of sexual offences.
About YouWe seek a proven executive leader with the strategic capability to influence change, foster collaboration and lead with integrity in complex environments.
You will bring a thoughtful, inclusive leadership style and ensure victims' and stakeholders' voices are heard and respected.
With exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, you will engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.
From victims and community organisations to senior government and justice representatives, you will build trust, credibility and enduring relationships through thoughtful, trauma-informed and open engagement and effective communication.
You will be adept at navigating competing priorities, managing change and making sound, evidence-informed decisions even in the face of ambiguity and challenge.
You will bring a deep understanding of justice and social systems and the impact that policy, legislative and procedural change has on the victim experience.
You will be courageous and resilient, constructively challenging important issues and standing firm in your convictions.
You will have executive leadership experience in complex environments, with proven capability in managing systemic issues and complaints, shaping policy and reform, and leading high-performing teams.
Regulatory expertise combined with a strong understanding of contemporary issues and practices affecting crime victims will be essential to success in this role.
Qualifications in law or a related discipline and extensive knowledge of the justice system and victim support sector will be highly regarded.
