Position Overview: Professor/Associate Professor in Mechanical Circulatory Support

The Mechanical Circulatory Support Program is at the forefront of developing innovative artificial heart technologies and related solutions. Collaborating with top-tier academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and industry leaders, we aim to revolutionize heart failure treatment through cutting-edge cardiovascular technologies.

This pivotal role within the program involves overseeing the advancement of the MiniPump, a state-of-the-art miniature blood pump designed for patients suffering from severe heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Responsibilities encompass directing the engineering processes—both mechanical and electrical—necessary for the design, prototyping, testing, and production of the MiniPump.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading research initiatives focused on the MiniPump's development, ensuring adherence to project milestones.
  • Guiding the product development through comprehensive pre-clinical testing using various models.
  • Fostering partnerships with external stakeholders, including clinicians and engineers, to expedite the MiniPump's progress.
  • Delivering regular updates to program directors and funding bodies regarding project performance and milestones.
  • Managing project teams and overseeing financial aspects, including talent acquisition and retention.
  • Engaging in commercialization efforts by understanding market demands and securing funding.
  • Publishing research findings in esteemed scientific journals and representing the program at significant conferences.
  • Implementing university policies related to equitable education access and workplace safety.

To ensure adaptability, the successful candidate may also be required to:

  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by the university, with appropriate training provided.
  • Participate in job rotation or skill enhancement initiatives as discussed with their supervisor.

This position offers a fixed-term, full-time appointment for a duration of four years.

Selection Criteria:
  • A doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with extensive experience in rotary blood pump development.
  • Proven track record in leading mechanical circulatory support design and testing, with experience in transitioning prototypes to manufacturing.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a regulated environment, familiar with GLP and GMP standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate strong relationships in a collaborative research environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with proficiency in public speaking and presentations.
  • Leadership experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and large-scale projects.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing staff to foster a successful team environment.
