Academic Position in Mechanical Engineering

We are seeking a highly qualified Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to join our team in the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering, Faculty of EAIT. This is a full-time, permanent position that can be offered at Level B or C, with a competitive salary range of $130,000 to $155,000 per annum, plus superannuation.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in teaching and research, particularly in the application of data analytics and artificial intelligence to the natural resources industry. They will be responsible for teaching courses at the Bachelor and Master of Engineering levels, coordinating courses, supervising Higher Degree by Research students, and engaging with industry partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching:
- Contribute to the development and delivery of programs and courses in mechanical engineering.
- Coordinate courses, prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, and practicals, and undertake assessment and marking for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework courses.
- Maintain and improve the quality of courses as measured through university evaluation instruments.
- Provide high-quality service to students, including academic advice.
Research:
- Work with colleagues and HDR students in the development and conduct of joint research projects and applications for competitive research funding support.
- Contribute as chief investigator role in applications for external research funding.
- Maintain an active and effective record of publishing in high-quality national research journals and other refereed publications.
- Prepare research publications and progress reports and participate in regular meetings to discuss project objectives, methodology, and outcomes.
Supervision and Researcher Development:
- Contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students.
- Manage employee performance and provide coaching, feedback, and training.
Citizenship and Service:
- Develop partnerships with colleagues, industry, government departments, professional bodies, and the wider community.
- Exhibit leadership through mentoring, collaboration, and efficient management of internal service roles and decision-making processes.
Additional Responsibilities for Academic Level C:
Teaching:
- Demonstrate an established record of effective contribution to a range of teaching responsibilities.
- Make original contributions that expand knowledge or practice in the relevant discipline.
Research:
- Contribute to progressing the transfer of knowledge, technology, and practices to research end-users through translation.
- Encourage, initiate, and coordinate strategic collaborative research projects in related areas of expertise across University, national, and international levels.
Supervision and Researcher Development:
- Act as Principal Supervisor to HDR students.
- Demonstrate and lead others in the responsible conduct of research.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a PhD in mechanical engineering and a record of research in mechanical engineering. They will demonstrate a growing profile in teaching and research in the field, a developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and conference presentations, and evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.
For appointment at Level C, the successful candidate will also have national recognition in the area of expertise, with an internationally developing profile and an established record of publications in reputed refereed journals and conference presentations.
