
Rural Cancer Care Specialist

Job Overview
This role is part of culturally safe cancer care pathways, promoting holistic health and community education in rural Queensland.
You will collaborate with local healthcare services to strengthen referral processes and build trust within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The position combines nursing skills with health promotion, advocacy, and program development in a supportive environment.
Main responsibilities include:
- Promoting cancer screening resources across community programs.
- Supporting clients and families navigating cancer services and palliative care pathways.
- Coordinating planning with hospitals and Aboriginal Medical Services for culturally safe referrals.
- Delivering health promotion activities, yarning circles, and community education.
- Assisting in developing quality improvement processes and culturally appropriate learning materials.
Key requirements include:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
- Experience in community health, chronic disease, oncology, or related programs.
- A valid QLD Driver's Licence, First Aid/CPR certificate, Blue Card, and National Police Check.
- Strong communication skills with ability to work independently and in a team.
- Cultural awareness working in rural and remote areas and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities.
Desirable qualifications include:
- Experience in cancer screening, oncology nursing, or palliative care.
- Previous work in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services or rural health.
- IT skills including Microsoft Office.
