
Community Support Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people with disabilities, their families and carers. As a Local Area Coordinator, you will be responsible for assisting individuals to build and pursue their goals, exercise choice and control, and engage with the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
In this role, you will be working in the region of Bunbury, Western Australia, and will be required to assist people with 'permanent and significant' disability to apply for NDIS supports. You will also collaborate with participants to develop goals, connect them with local community resources, and support them to navigate and optimise their engagement with the NDIS.
The successful candidate will be an approachable, positive, passionate, and respectful person who can build and nurture relationships easily and confidently. Strong personal values based on empathy and compassion, they will understand the diverse needs of individuals within the local community and be able to coach, counsel, and connect people to identify and achieve positive outcomes.
Responsibilities- Assisting people with 'permanent and significant' disability to apply for NDIS supports
- Collaborating with participants to develop goals
- Connecting people with disabilities to local community resources
- Supporting participants to navigate and optimise their engagement with the NDIS
- Demonstrated relevant experience and/or lived experience
- Experience in planning with people to achieve collaborative outcomes
- Knowledge of the local community and available options for social and economic participation for people with disability
- Demonstrated computer skills including capability with Microsoft Office 365
- Currently hold or able to hold a Working with Children and/or Vulnerable People Check
