At Deakin University, we offer a unique opportunity to support our leading research by coordinating the formation, negotiation and execution of contracts with industry, other universities, funding organisations, government departments and stakeholders.

The Research Contracts Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient processes, communication and documentation throughout the contract lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:

Contract Preparation: Preparation of research-related contracts with other universities, research institutes, industry partners, government and community groups;

Relationship Building: Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with partners across industry, government, community and the research sector;

Project Management: Project management of contract review, drafting and execution, including high-value, multi-party agreements;

Risk Management: Recommendation on risk management and compliance regarding policies, procedures, and requirements;

Negotiation: Review, draft, and negotiate competitive and commercial research agreements.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have postgraduate qualifications or extensive relevant experience, as well as demonstrated knowledge and experience in commercial principles relating to contracts, including risk analysis and project costing within a university or research organisation. You should also have an established track record in providing strategic advice on contracts to researchers, including IP management, publication and distribution of risk and liability.
