About the Opportunity:
This role is focused on providing comprehensive support to families with children in their care. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with parents and family carers to enhance safety and connectedness within local community services.
The Family Carer Support Specialist will provide initial assessments, develop tailored case plans, and offer practical assistance to overcome barriers faced by carers. Additionally, they will oversee case management activities, provide resources on parenting and trauma, and facilitate connections to community programs for children.
This position is part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting early intervention and supporting vulnerable families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Familiarity with Aboriginal culture and values
- Awareness of current issues affecting Aboriginal children, young people, and their families
- Relevant qualification in human services or equivalent experience and skills
- Understanding of attachment, trauma theories, child development, child-centered approach, and resilience
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
- Liaising with community services, other agencies, and the community
- Understanding of the child protection and out-of-home care service system
