Job Title

The Disability Advocate role is a challenging opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities.

  • This position involves providing high-quality advocacy services, empowering and directly representing clients and their carers in dispute resolution processes.
  • Key responsibilities include advocating on behalf of individuals with acquired brain injury (ABI) and/or supporting them to self-advocate by providing information and support.
  • Linking individuals with relevant services that can assist them with their issues or concerns.
  • Supporting individuals to participate in formal dispute resolution settings such as tribunals and courts.

Key Responsibilities Overview

  • Deliver timely and effective advocacy for individuals with disability.
  • Ensure individuals with ABI are informed about their rights and responsibilities and supported to make decisions about their lives and matters affecting them.
  • Maintain confidentiality in managing sensitive information relating to staff or client matters.
  • Promote positive outcomes for service users and gather feedback to inform improvements.

Requirements

  • A strong understanding of disability advocacy and its application in a National Disability Advocacy Program context.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, carers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage competing demands and prioritize tasks to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Familiarity with the National Standards for Disability Services (NSDS) and ability to apply them in practice.
