Job Title: Underwriting Manager, Casualty Brooklyn

AXA XL is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead our Casualty Underwriting team in Brooklyn. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of underwriting operations within the central region, ensuring portfolio profitability, account pricing, and renewal retention.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute departmental strategy and achieve P&L metrics, including verification of appropriate risk premium calculations to ensure profitability.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients and broker partners, identifying opportunities for cross-selling and ensuring account retention.
  • Manage insured and producer relationships across a large geographical territory, ensuring client satisfaction and fulfillment of insurance requirements.
  • Lead and develop a team of Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters, providing guidance and support to achieve business objectives.
  • Oversee submissions, including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports, ensuring timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
  • Continuously improve underwriting processes and procedures, ensuring compliance with corporate and divisional guidelines.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred and equivalent experience in underwriting, policy development, and broker management.
  • Strong technical skills with Microsoft Office and other relevant systems, with the ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.
  • Leadership skills, with the ability to guide and influence others, and lead in accordance with AXA XL core values and culture.
  • Marketing skills, with the ability to plan for sales and business development, and integrate the use of various techniques, tools, and information to support profitable business growth.
  • Negotiation and sales skills, with the ability to plan, structure, and conduct negotiations with brokers and/or clients to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
  • Interpersonal savvy, with the ability to build excellent interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues, and improve personal profile and reputation within AXA XL and the broader market.
  • Industry knowledge, with an understanding of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios to positively impact the underwriting business.
  • Strategy and planning skills, with the ability to make underwriting decisions to fulfill business strategic plan and deliver results, and knowledge of financial targets and levers to deliver on departmental business plan.
  • Analytical skills, with the ability to visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze, and solve complex problems to make key business decisions.
