AXA XL is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead our Casualty Underwriting team in Brooklyn. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of underwriting operations within the central region, ensuring portfolio profitability, account pricing, and renewal retention.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute departmental strategy to achieve P&L metrics, including verification of risk premium calculations to ensure profitability.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients and broker partners to initiate opportunities for cross-selling and ensure account retention.
  • Manage insured and producer relationships across a large geographical territory.
  • Maintain market visibility through effective marketing to insureds and brokers.
  • Ensure client satisfaction by fulfilling their insurance requirements.
  • Determine appropriate reinsurance for risk placements in coordination with other internal teams.
  • Lead and develop a team of Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters.
  • Oversight of submissions, including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports.
  • Continuous improvement.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred and equivalent experience in policy development and broker management.
  • Knowledge of systems functionality, including strong technical skills with Microsoft Office and other relevant systems.
  • Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.
  • Leadership skills to guide and influence others in accordance with AXA XL core values and culture.
  • Marketing skills to plan for sales and business development.
  • Negotiation and sales skills to plan, structure, and conduct negotiations with brokers and clients.
  • Interpersonal savvy to build excellent relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues.
  • Industry knowledge to positively impact the underwriting business.
  • Strategy and planning skills to make underwriting decisions and deliver results.
  • Analytical skills to visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze, and solve complex problems.
