Family Support Specialist Role

This critical role involves identifying kin placement pathways for children and young people in the child safety residential OOHC system. The goal is to reunify families under safe and thriving conditions.

The Family Support Specialist will provide coordinated and culturally sensitive support and interventions with families, offering a comprehensive mix of services tailored to their needs. This includes assertive kin finding, holistic case management, and collaboration with multiple service providers to empower families to navigate challenges, develop essential life skills, and access therapeutic support in efforts of family reunification.

  • Engage clients through cold-call home-based visits.
  • Facilitate FLDM meetings with broader family kin to gain family consensus on a Placement Plan to reunite child with family care arrangements.
  • Assist in assessing carers, including initial screening, Blue Card submission, and PAC assessments.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed case notes of all client interactions.

The successful candidate will be part of a unique and supportive culture where every team member is treated and valued as an individual. They will have a strong understanding of cultural sensitivity and awareness, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant social services field with at least 4 years of experience in family support, child protection, youth support, housing or related field.
  • Exceptional case management skills, including grammatical writing ability, personal organisation and time management, and execution of services according to the model of care phases of work.
  • Ability to create new social work theoretical frameworks of practice, aligned with ATSICHS values.

Additional Requirements

  • Working with Children's Card (Blue Card) or eligibility to apply.
  • National Police Certificate.
  • Driver's Licence.
  • Evidence of Work Rights.
  • Travel to work in the community on a regular basis.
