Aboriginal Early Years Practitioner Role

We are seeking a dedicated professional to provide vital support to Family Services and Bringing Up Aboriginal Babies at Home (BUABAH) staff in their work with the early years' cohort.

This role involves working closely with families to strengthen parenting skills and capacity, promoting child safety and stability while fostering cultural connection.

  • Essential qualifications include Early Childhood Development, Infant Mental Health, Nursing, Social Work or other relevant training, as well as demonstrated knowledge and experience.
  • A deep understanding of the impact of colonisation and intergenerational trauma on Aboriginal families, children, and young people is crucial for success in this role.
  • Strong cultural awareness and competence are necessary to work effectively with Aboriginal families and communities.
  • Experience working with families in pregnancy, with infants and young children, using a strengths-based approach is highly valued.
  • Developing trusting relationships with families and providing skills development to promote self-determination is key to this position.
  • Collaboration with other organisations and supporting colleagues through informed feedback is also essential.
Requirements
  • A valid Police Check, Working with Children's Check, and Victorian Driver Licence are required for this role.
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended.
