Position Overview:

The role of the School Counsellor is pivotal in fostering the social and emotional well-being of students. This position is dedicated to delivering comprehensive support services that align with best practices in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement targeted interventions based on assessment outcomes.
  • Facilitate programs aimed at enhancing social skills and emotional resilience among students.
  • Provide support to families and engage with parents within the educational framework.
  • Maintain communication with relevant staff regarding significant matters related to student cases.
  • Conduct both individual and group counselling sessions, as well as psychoeducational activities.
  • Connect students and families with appropriate community resources for additional support.
  • Collaborate with educators to ensure effective management of students receiving counselling services.
  • Organize workshops and informational sessions for parents and students to promote awareness and understanding.
  • Support the transition and management of students across all year levels.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Possession of tertiary qualifications in Psychology or Counselling, or a relevant diploma.
  • For Psychologists, registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is required.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a current Working With Children Check (WWCC).
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with a diverse student and staff population.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
  • Exhibit a high standard of ethical practice and possess strong report writing abilities.
  • Demonstrated skills in case documentation and oral communication.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Commitment to understanding and adhering to child safety regulations and policies.
  • Proficient in the use of information technology systems.

All staff members are expected to be knowledgeable about their responsibilities regarding child safety. Employment is contingent upon compliance with the institution's policies, including those related to child safety.
