Role Overview:

The School Counsellor plays a vital role in delivering social and emotional health support, adhering to international best practices. This position involves providing assessment, counselling, debriefing, and family assistance to students across all year levels at their designated campus, while ensuring compliance with child safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement specialized interventions based on assessment outcomes.
  • Facilitate social skills programs and other initiatives aimed at enhancing emotional well-being and psychological growth for targeted groups.
  • Offer family support to students and parents within the school environment.
  • Keep relevant staff informed about critical issues concerning cases under management.
  • Conduct individual and group counselling sessions or psychoeducational programs for students.
  • Refer students and their families to suitable community resources for medical, vocational, or social services.
  • Collaborate and consult with teaching staff regarding the management of students receiving counselling, providing necessary feedback on student welfare matters.
  • Organize information sessions and workshops for parents and students.
  • Assist in the management and transition processes for all year levels.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology or Counselling, or a minimum Diploma in Counselling or a related field.
  • For Psychologists, registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is required.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a current Working With Children Check (WWCC).
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students and colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
  • Exhibit a high level of ethical standards and possess well-developed report writing abilities.
  • Proficient in case note documentation and oral communication.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical practices.
  • Commitment to understanding and adhering to Mandatory Reporting and child safety standards.
  • Proficient in the use of IT systems.
