About the Role

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist, Commercial Energy, plays a critical role in driving EHS process excellence, ensuring regulatory compliance, and minimizing risks across Commercial, Industrial, and Utility Energy product deployments in the Pacific.

This position reports to the EHS Director – Energy, Charging and Service and is committed to maintaining world-class safety standards in operations. It involves collaboration with senior regional leadership, front-line operational staff, contracting partners, and other Tesla teams to foster continuous improvement in the design and deployment of energy storage systems and electric vehicle chargers.

This role is based in Sydney, Australia, and requires frequent and extended travel based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop Strategic Partnerships: Serve as an EHS advisor to Tesla Energy business leaders, ensuring legal compliance and safe product deployment.
  • Technical Expertise: Serve as a technical expert in the safe design, installation, construction, and operation of Tesla energy products.
  • Safety Program Development: Support the development and execution of Tesla's Safety programs for Utility and Commercial Deployments.
  • EHS Solutions: Identify operational gaps and drive innovative EHS solutions with cross-functional teams.
  • EHS Event Investigation: Investigate EHS events, determine causes and preventative actions, and implement Human & Organizational Performance principles.
  • EHS Compliance Verification: Conduct field observations to verify EHS compliance, document findings, and review improvement opportunities with stakeholders.
  • EHS Training and Communication: Lead EHS meetings to communicate improvements, event learnings, and performance, and train teams on EHS concepts to reduce risk.
  • Environmental Policy Development: Develop, implement, and monitor environmental policies and programs to ensure compliance with regulations, while driving regional initiatives to enhance awareness and implementation of waste management practices, focusing on waste avoidance, re-use, and recycling as part of the Circular Economy Strategy.
Requirements
  • Minimum three years of progressive EHS experience in large organizations and an education in an EHS-related field.
  • Experience in the electric power generation, transmission, storage, or distribution industries, with a preference for knowledge of lithium-ion battery storage.
  • Practical experience in construction safety, working at heights, electrical safety, and environmental risks, with knowledge of local and national regulatory agencies.
  • Detailed knowledge and practical, hands-on experience in developing and deploying electrical safety programs under the requirements of AS3000.
  • Ability to execute responsibilities in a fast-paced global organization using a 'first-principles' approach, with strong communication skills and the ability to interact positively with various stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Expert in MS Office 365 Suite, including SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience in Environmental, Hazardous Waste, Commercial Recycling is a bonus.
