About the Role

Central Coast Local Health District seeks an Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Consultant to join the Central Coast Aboriginal Mental Health Team.

This role provides the opportunity to deliver essential cultural advice and advocacy, supporting Aboriginal consumers in mental health services.

You will work closely with clinical teams to ensure services honour Aboriginal culture, address the impacts of trauma and colonisation, and promote social and emotional wellbeing through a strong cultural perspective.

You will collaborate with mental health clinicians to provide cultural advice and guidance, ensuring care is respectful of Aboriginal culture and sensitive to the effects of trauma and colonisation.

  • Provide cultural advice and advocacy within a mental health setting.
  • Assist with culturally informed care planning and assessments.
  • Advocate for Aboriginal consumers and support connections to family, community, and culture in hospital and community settings.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams, participate in reviews and meetings, and share insights to ensure Aboriginal voices are heard.
  • Build and maintain connections with local Aboriginal health organisations and other agencies to support holistic care and outcomes.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in Health, Counselling, Social Work, Community Welfare, or relevant work experience.
  • Of Aboriginal descent, recognised by your community, and meeting the genuine occupational qualification for this role.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and the social and emotional challenges faced by Aboriginal people.
  • Hold current, unrestricted NSW Driver's Licence.
  • Skilled in providing cultural advice and advocacy within a mental health setting.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with experience working with clinical teams and community partners.
  • Committed to culturally safe practices and improving health outcomes for Aboriginal consumers.
