About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to join our team as a Café Operations Manager at Mission Australia's Café One in Cairns. As a key member of our social enterprise program, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with a history of homelessness to gain skills and become financially independent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Implementation
    • Develop and implement programs to support trainees in achieving their qualification and employment goals
    • Collaborate with the team to ensure the smooth operation of Café One
  • Training and Supervision
    • Provide ongoing training, supervision, and support to Café One Trainees
    • Assist Trainees to achieve their qualification and obtain employment or ongoing training following the completion of their traineeship
  • Operations and Logistics
    • Ensure quality food and service are compliant with QLD Health laws, regulations, and Food Safety Standards
    • Coordinate and provide barista services at community engagement activities
    • Be responsible for the ordering of supplies to support the coffee van operations
Requirements for Success
  • Education and Qualifications
    • Relevant degree (desirable) and/or formal qualifications at trade level
  • Experience and Skills
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with people who have experienced long-term homelessness
    • Ability to work with disadvantaged people in a compassionate and effective manner
    • Knowledge of barista, food preparation, hygiene practices, and workplace health and safety
    • Ability to lead, supervise, and mentor a group of Trainees
    • Strong organisational and administrative skills
    • Ability to work with limited supervision, prioritising work and managing time effectively
    • Ability to maintain professional boundaries
    • Ability to cope with the physical demands of the position
