About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Officer to join our Fish Health department at Huon Aquaculture Company Pty Ltd. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of our fish populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular health checks and investigations at our marine and hatchery sites to identify and mitigate any potential health risks.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote fish health, taking into account environmental and market factors.
  • Enforce animal welfare and biosecurity compliance within our operational teams to ensure the highest standards of care.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry best practices and research findings to inform our fish health management strategies.
  • Collaborate with research bodies to collect, analyze, and report data on fish health projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of farming activities and plan production accordingly to ensure optimal fish health outcomes.
  • Supervise and train staff and contractors to ensure they are aware of and adhere to our VHP protocols.
  • Ensure laboratories and fish health workstations are clean and well-stocked, and promote best husbandry practices throughout the organization.
About You

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual with a strong background in fish biology, water chemistry, and marine and freshwater production cycles. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

  • You have a strong understanding of fish health management principles and practices.
  • You have experience in collecting and analyzing data, with the ability to communicate results clearly and concisely.
  • You are self-motivated and able to work independently, with a strong track record of contributing to continuous improvement of systems and procedures.
  • You have a strong understanding of Microsoft Office and are proficient in data analysis and reporting.
  • You have a valid driver's license and are able to travel to our marine and freshwater sites as required.
