About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Associate Dean for Content and Access at the Digital Library Federation. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction for our Content and Access division, driving innovation and excellence in collection development, management, and access.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Content and Access Division: Oversee the division's operations, ensuring efficient and effective management of collections, metadata, and access services.
  • Develop Strategic Directions: Collaborate with senior leaders to establish strategic goals and objectives for the division, aligning with the Digital Library Federation's mission and vision.
  • Manage the Materials Budget: Oversee the Libraries' materials budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and strategic allocation of resources.
  • Partner with Colleagues: Collaborate with Associate Deans and other senior leaders to develop and implement organizational collection development and management strategies and policies.
  • Advance Digital Content: Work with the Associate Dean for Special Collections and Area Studies and the Assistant Dean for Technology and Digital Programs to advance the preservation, discovery, and access of digital content.
  • Lead OhioLINK and BTAA Initiatives: Provide leadership within OhioLINK and Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) Library Initiatives, driving collaboration and innovation among member libraries.
  • Foster a Collaborative Work Environment: Encourage cross-divisional partnerships, promoting a supportive and inclusive work environment.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Library/Information Science: From an ALA-accredited graduate program.
  • Minimum of Ten Years of Experience: In a large academic or research library or comparable experience elsewhere.
  • Knowledge of Trends and Issues: Significant knowledge and understanding of trends and issues in collection development and/or library technical services librarianship.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Demonstrated success in planning, oversight, and administration, including effective leadership, supervision, coaching, and budgetary skills.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, and collaboration skills for communicating complex issues and perspectives to a diverse range of constituencies.
  • Analytical and Decision-Making Skills: Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Research and Publication: Record of research, publication, and scholarly achievement sufficient to warrant appointment with tenure at the Associate Professor level.

  • National or International Reputation: National or international reputation in collection development and/or library technical services librarianship.
  • Collaborative Initiatives: Significant record of participation in relevant collaborative initiatives and professional associations.
