About the Role

As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing care and support to children who have been placed into the care of Life Without Barriers. This is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of the children our organisation supports through our Out of Home Care Program.

You will be working in a family group home setting in Kalgoorlie with a team of staff committed to seeing the best outcomes for our young clients. Your role will involve providing quality direct support to children in our care, in line with their support needs and all support plans relevant to the care they are receiving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Quality Care and Support: Deliver high-quality care and support to children in our care, ensuring their physical, emotional, and psychological needs are met.
  • Day-to-Day Care: Provide day-to-day care in a home setting, including support with getting ready for school, preparing meals, caring for the children in the home, activities, and sports.
  • Establish Rapport and Collaborate: Establish strong relationships with children and their families to achieve positive outcomes, and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the best possible care.
  • Develop and Deliver Programs: Develop and deliver programs to support the children in consultation with internal and external stakeholders and care teams.
  • Monitor and Adapt: Monitor the changing needs of children and work collaboratively with the care team to contribute to the adaptation of LWB services as required to meet these needs.
  • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate progress notes and record-keeping.
Requirements
  • Certificate in Community or Children's Services: A Certificate in Community or Children's Services is advantageous but not essential.
  • Ability to Build Rapport: The ability to build rapport with children through sports, games, and hobbies is essential.
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate: A current Senior First Aid Certificate is required (or willingness to obtain during background checks).
  • Current Unrestricted Drivers Licence: A current unrestricted Drivers Licence is required.
  • Commitment to Support: A commitment to supporting and promoting the individual needs, skills, abilities, and personal goals of the people we support is essential.
  • Good Communication Skills: Good communication skills, including the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, are required.
  • Cultural Competence: The ability to build relationships with diverse cultural groups and to work within frameworks considerate of cultural needs is essential.
Selection Criteria
  • Probity Checks: Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks, including National Criminal History Record Check, Working with Children Check, and Child Protection Clearance.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: To be considered for and appointed to a position at Life Without Barriers, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a minimum of two (2) doses or hold a valid medical exemption certificate.
