HOPE has been a community service in Western Australia for over a century, providing much needed support to people affected by alcohol and other drugs, mental ill-health, youth justice issues and socioeconomic disadvantage. 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Family Support Worker to join the Mara Pirni Healing Place team The position is full time, fixed term, working Monday to Friday.

About the Opportunity 

The One Stop Family Domestic Violence Hub Mara Pirni Healing Place, provides victim-survivors with access to services and supports in a single, accessible location, as well as providing off-site services for perpetrators and young people. The service model will see the creation of a multicultural and multidisciplinary team, while adopting a trauma informed, culturally competent approach: while the various hub team members will be employed by one of the four service partners, they will work within the cohesive FDV Hub team culture under the leadership of the FDV Manager, to provide support to women and children who are experiencing family violence .

Requirements of the Role: 

  • Conduct child safe assessments using the risk assessment tools on a regular basis.
  • Work in a strengths-based, child-centred, family-focused way where the wellbeing and safety of children and young people remains paramount.
  • Strengthening family connections, promoting placement prevention, and promoting the safety of children, young people and parents.
  • To participate in the development of comprehensive family plans using a wrap-around approach and participation in ongoing review and evaluation of family plans
  • Support families in their understanding of child development and enable them to develop positive parenting skills.
  • Provide support to parents struggling with individual issues that impact on their parenting such as mental health, drug and alcohol issues, family violence, disability, unstable housing, and poverty in collaboration with the safety advocate team.
  • Assist families to improve their relationship, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Advocate for the needs of children, youth, and families in promoting access to services and resources

About you:

  • Progressing towards a relevant qualification in Community Services or related discipline (minimum Cert III) or willing to engage in formal study via a registered training organisation.
  • Values alignment: ability to demonstrate and authentically promote HOPE’s values.
  • Ability to network and establish sound working relationships with related services, especially other community agencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, time management and organisational skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced Computer literacy using MS Word, Outlook, Excel and efficient

Appointments will be subject to Australian residency/visa, satisfactory National Police check (within 3 months), Working With Children card, Current C or A class driver's license, First Aid Certificate, and suitable work referees.
