Work Health and Safety Officer

The Australian Government is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Work Health and Safety (WHS) Officer to join our team as an APS 5. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of WHS principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic WHS advice to senior leadership and stakeholders, identifying and resolving problems, and implementing alternative courses of action.
- Develop and maintain WHS policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring compliance with ADF and Commonwealth WHS policy and legislation.
- Conduct audits and investigations, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide timely and accurate WHS advice and guidance.
- Develop and deliver WHS training programs, ensuring that all personnel are aware of their WHS responsibilities and obligations.
The WHS Officer will work within the Headquarters 1st (Australian) Division, Business Management Cell (BMC). The BMC provides business and governance management and advice to subordinate formations and to the Commander 1st (Australian) Division. Our team is dedicated to ensuring Defence has a system of work that optimizes people's performance and the achievement of Defence's mission.
Requirements- Experience in providing WHS advice and guidance in a complex and dynamic environment.
- Strong understanding of WHS principles and practices, including governance, planning, policy interpretation, procedures, continuous improvement, incident investigation, and reporting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions in a timely and effective manner.
- Strong skills across the Microsoft Office Suite (or similar) and ability to develop strong skills in software platforms used to manage WHS and E.
