The role of First Nations Advanced Health Worker Mental Health is to deliver high-level cultural advice and professional support to First Nations peoples accessing mental health services.
Key objectives include achieving improved mental health outcomes for First Nations peoples, as per the QLD Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capability Framework 2010-2033 and Closing the Gap initiative.
To achieve these objectives, successful applicants will possess:
- High-level interpersonal, communication, consultation, and negotiation skills to develop effective partnerships within the Health Service and external stakeholders.
- An understanding of social determinants of health affecting First Nations peoples.
- The ability to provide effective cultural support to First Nations peoples accessing community mental health services.
- Ability to support multidisciplinary teams in improving their understanding of Social, Emotional, and Well-being needs of First Nations consumers.
- The appropriate clinical skills for delivering evidence-based health assessments, health promotion, education, illness prevention activities, and primary health care services to First Nations peoples.
Award-winning candidates will be vaccinated against certain vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD) and COVID-19, as outlined in relevant Health Directives.
In accordance with s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act of 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for incumbents to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
