Job Overview

Q-CTRL is seeking a Senior RF Engineer to join our Hardware team within the Quantum Sensing division at our laboratories in Sydney, Australia.

This role involves developing new quantum sensor prototypes and products by designing custom microwave/RF electronics and antenna systems. The RF Engineer will contribute to deploying software-ruggedized quantum gravimeters, accelerometers, and magnetometers.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop custom RF & microwave electronics for quantum sensor prototypes and eventual productization.
  2. Design miniaturized RF electronics subsystems based on bench-top prototypes.
  3. Model and simulate microwave/RF signal transmission to optimize system performance.
  4. Design, optimize, and fabricate custom antennas for near-field operation.
  5. Ensure electronics systems are ruggedized for field operation.
  6. Manage the delivery of complex hardware prototypes, ensuring technical quality, performance, and reliability.
  7. Serve as the domain expert for RF electronics and systems.
  8. Lead and mentor hardware engineers and technicians as a senior team member.
  9. Perform other duties as per skills and experience or with reasonable training.

Requirements

  1. A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Physics, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  2. Proven experience developing RF/microwave circuit boards.
  3. R&D experience working with scientists and engineers.
  4. CAD software/design experience (desirable but not essential).
  5. Experience modeling microwave transmission using CST Studio or similar (desirable).
  6. Experience taking designs from prototype to production, including manufacturing and certification for global markets.
  7. A strong desire to work with a leading team and contribute to the future of quantum technology.
