Locomotive Driver Position

The role of a locomotive driver is to operate and control locomotives, including shunting and marshalling. This involves examining and certifying trains as ready for departure, working in accordance with established safety and operational standards and procedures, and maintaining a high level of on-time running.


Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and control locomotives in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Examine and certify trains as ready for departure, ensuring they are properly configured and loaded.
  • Maintain a high level of on-time running, adhering to schedules and deadlines.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure smooth train operations.
  • Prepare and conduct brake testing on locomotives, ensuring they are safe for operation.

Requirements
  • A strong commitment to safety and adherence to established protocols and procedures.
  • Availability to work a 24/7 shift roster, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Experience in freight and/or heavy haulage locomotive driving, preferably in a similar environment.
  • A Certificate IV in Rail Operations or equivalent qualification.
  • Current unrestricted driver's licence, free from any major traffic convictions.
