About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and accomplished Chief Scientific Officer to lead our Australian Genome Foundry. As a key member of our Faculty of Science and Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing the strategic vision and development of the Foundry, driving innovation and excellence in synthetic biology research and education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the Foundry, aligning with the University's research and education goals.
  • Lead a team of researchers and scientists in the design, development, and operation of high-throughput biofoundry capabilities.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with industry, academia, and government to drive collaborative research and innovation.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality research and education programs in synthetic biology, including the design and delivery of lectures, tutorials, and practical classes.
  • Supervise and mentor research students, postdoctoral fellows, and staff to ensure their professional development and success.
  • Contribute to the development of the University's research and education strategy, and participate in relevant University committees and working groups.
Requirements
  • PhD in molecular science or a relevant discipline, with significant contributions to scholarship and research.
  • Proven academic leadership experience in synthetic biology, with a strong track record of attracting funding and developing productive partnerships.
  • Working knowledge of access models to synthetic biology capability, experience managing projects using high-throughput biofoundry capabilities, and successful oversight of a sustainable service facility.
  • Strong teaching and mentoring skills, with experience in delivering high-quality education programs in synthetic biology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including industry partners, researchers, and students.
