We are seeking a suitably qualified medical practitioner to fill the position of Staff Specialist in the Department of Older People's Mental Health.

This is an exciting opportunity to participate as a senior clinician on the development and operation of a statewide tertiary clinical consultation and liaison service aimed at supporting NSW public inpatient services caring for people experiencing extreme behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD).

The successful applicant will work as part of a small team, with peer to peer support, and opportunities for personal and professional development. The team provides tertiary level consultative services to NSW public inpatient services caring for people experiencing extreme BPSD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide clinical consultation and liaison services to NSW public inpatient services caring for people experiencing extreme BPSD.
  • To work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team.
  • To take part in planning and service development, working collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve best outcomes.
  • To travel across various Local Health District Regions and provide team-based CL services within inpatient settings.

Requirements:

  • A Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
  • Experience working with and providing clinical consultation/liaison to services caring for people with Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia.
  • A Certificate in Old Age Psychiatry.
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
