Legal Advisor Role

The position of Legal Advisor plays a pivotal role in delivering trusted legal services across the organisation. This individual will work closely with enterprise functions, focusing on supporting technology, privacy, and data governance needs.

In this capacity, you'll partner with various teams to provide clear, practical legal guidance, ensuring the business operates with confidence and integrity. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing legal support for the procurement of enterprise and digital/technology services
  • Advising on privacy, data governance, and compliance initiatives
  • Negotiating, drafting, and providing advice on general commercial and procurement contracts
  • Partnering with senior lawyers/internal clients/key business contacts to deliver strategic, commercial outcomes for the group
  • Identifying legal risks in transactions and advising on appropriate mitigations
  • Providing legal advice and undertaking research on commercial, regulatory, and compliance matters, as well as assisting with operational and strategic issues from a legal perspective
  • Assisting the business in managing litigation and commercial disputes
  • Managing the interface between external counsel and group businesses
  • Contributing to broader corporate business improvement processes in connection with legal services.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent, with eligibility to practise in NSW or Victoria
  • Around 5+ years' post-admission experience in corporate, commercial, and transactional legal work
  • Strong skills in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing legal documents, including contracts
  • Knowledge of dispute resolution approaches and experience with major projects or corporate transactions
  • Experience advising on data management, confidentiality, information security, and privacy law (highly regarded)
  • In-house legal experience, ideally within the gas or electricity infrastructure sector (highly regarded).
