Job Overview

This is a strategic opportunity to join a high-performing in-house legal team as a Senior Legal Counsel.

You will play a key role in providing commercial and pragmatic legal advice on a wide range of matters that impact business operations.

The ideal candidate will be a capable and commercially-minded lawyer with strong legal drafting and negotiation skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive mindset.

With at least 5 years' PQE in corporate and commercial law, you will bring a strong foundation in litigation or transactional experience.

As a trusted advisor to senior leaders, you will build relationships across the business and contribute to its success.

  • Key responsibilities include:
  1. Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements
  2. Providing solutions-focused legal advice on employment law, privacy, competition, safety, and regulatory compliance
  3. Identifying and managing legal risk across business operations
  4. Supporting on disputes and litigation, including oversight of external counsel
  5. Monitoring legislative changes and communicating key impacts to internal stakeholders
  6. Delivering internal legal training to enhance risk awareness and compliance
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • At least 5 years' PQE in corporate and commercial law
  • A background in private practice or in-house (litigation or transactional)
  • A current Victorian practising certificate
  • Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • A proactive, practical, and commercially driven mindset
